The burs we carry are made of vanadium steel, carbon steel, and tungsten carbide steel. Carbon steel burs have a working life about five times that of vanadium steel and tungsten carbide is about five times harder than carbon steel. Carbon steel and tungsten carbide burs have the most aggressive cutting action, and many novices and experienced stone setters prefer the greater control that can be had with vanadium steel burs.
